It helps to see if there is any abnormality in the uterus (womb), cervix (the neck of the womb), endometrium (lining of the womb), fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder or the pelvic cavity. It can examine the pelvic organs from inside the vagina using a special handheld device called a transducer. It is painless process and does not involve any radiation or surgical process which makes it very safe.
The test is required by your doctor if you experience any pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding. It can be used to see fibroids/ muscle tumors of the uterus, ovarian cysts or tumors, causes of infertility or pregnancy assessment. It is followed by an abdominal ultrasound scan using a conventional handheld transducer on the abdomen.
